The 4528 is a small, Hi-g Tungsten-Halogen light fixture that is designed to supply high illumination is restricted location for high-speed film and video application.  It is intended to supplement overhead lighting that doesn't illuminate key areas on test sleds, inside crash vehicles and similar situations.  A rugged PAR-46 sealed beam aircraft landing lamp withstands high shock loads while providing high lighting levels.  The 4528's compact size & light weight construction make it ideal for Hi-g applications where high lighting levels are needed in small areas.

Performance Specifications:
The 4528 is a Hi-g light fixture designed to output  high intensity illumination for short time durations.  Applications include Hi-g sleds, full-scale crash vehicle testing and other activities where impact resistance lights are desired.
The 4528 is ideal in text bays that have high intensity overall illumination.  However, in some cases, this illumination may be obscured and prevented from lighting areas inside vehicles, Hi-g sleds and related testing environments.

Two different Hi-g aircraft landing lights have been selected as best suited for high -speed imaging applications.  These Tungsten-Halogen lamps are manufactured by GE® in  a PAR-46 sealed beam envelope, under part numbers 4580 and 4582.  Both lamps are interchangeable within the 4528 fixture.  Input power is a nominal 28-volts or slightly higher to achieve the specified illumination performance.  See the following table for details.

These rugged 28-volt lights can be powered from regular 30-volt high-speed cameras batteries, however lamp On-Time is limited by battery capacity.  Power can also be supplied by VIC's new 4800 Controllers.  These Controllers allow 4 or 8 lamps to be connected in series and operate from regular 115VAC or 230VAC power circuits.  The key benefit is 75% less power consumption when compared to separate power supplies for each light.  See the separate 4800 Light Controller data below for more details.

When greater light intensity is required a larger and equally rugged fixture designated the model 6428 is available. The Hi-g 6428 produces almost twice as much illumination compared to the 4580 SPOT lamp in the 4528 fixture. The following specifications describe both 4528B and 6428 fixtures. A table on the following page lists lamp performance details,

Model 4800 Lamp Controller

The 4820 is an innovative controller designed to power four or eight 28-volt 4528 Hi-g PAR-46 light fixtures from 120VAC power. The result is very high illumination for high-speed film and video applications, and it's ideally suited for Hi-g applications and explosive over pressure environments.

Unlike traditional AC light sources, total power consumption is low, as one 20-amp. 120VAC circuit powers four 450-watt 28-volt 4528 lamps connected in series. The 4820 has two solid-state controller channels, each controlling 4-lamps. That's a total of more than two million candlepower, with SPOT lamps, calculated to 50% of center beam intensity with a total power consumption of 32 amps!

The 4840 model accepts 230/240VAC power and handles eight 4528 lights from a single controller circuit. Total power consumption is 16 amps at the same illumination level stated above.

Each 4800 series controller has a low voltage dimmer circuit with linear ramp up from 0 to full AC lamp voltage.  The dimmer eliminates the initial 80-amp current surge when instant full power is applied.

A recent upgrade incorporates a control circuit that allows users to trigger 4820 and 4840 controllers from a remote location or a sequencer to instantly ramp up the lights to full brightness. The circuit accepts a continuous 5 to 10 volt DC lever or a continuous contact closure. Remote control is useful in hazardous or explosive environments, test cells, vacuum chambers and related situations where personnel safety is an issue.

There are several benefits when using the built-in dimmer control, including extended lamp life. When greater illumination levels are required 4800 series controllers also power 28-volt PAR-64 Hi-g 600-watt lamps that doubles the 4528's beam candle power output.

4800 series controllers combined with eight 4528 light fixtures result in a small and lightweight system. It produces exceptionally high illumination levels with low power consumption at a very modest cost.
